Goals are fundamental to a happy life. They give us motivation, guide our behavior, and give us orientation in everyday life. But because we cling to old habits, are comfortable, or doubt ourselves, we repeatedly lose sight of our desires.
But achieving your goals is actually not rocket science. With a few tips and the right strategies, you can easily get closer to your ideas of a fulfilling life.
HOW TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS
Enthusiasm makes it easier to achieve your goals. In order to achieve your goals, you need to be aware of exactly what they are. Perhaps you are dissatisfied with your current life situation. “I need to change something” is a good start, but not a real goal. So first of all, make it clear to yourself what exactly you want to achieve: “I want to live with zero waste”, “I want to build my own business”, “I want to boost my self-confidence”.
Once you know what your goals are, formulate them as specifically and positively as possible. So instead of saying: “I want to have less stress”, try: “I want to be calm and relaxed”. How you formulate your goals is important – our subconscious now associates positive emotions with the project. Frustration is less motivating than enthusiasm.
Write down your goals on a piece of paper or in a notebook. If you formulate your plan in writing, your desire will be more firmly anchored in your consciousness. You can also write down why this goal is important to you. How will you feel when you have achieved it? What things will change in your life? This way, you can look up your goals and your enthusiasm for them at any time if you lose sight of them in everyday life.
Think about a strategy and take action
Develop a strategy to achieve your goals. You’ve already taken the first step towards achieving your goals. Now you need to think about a strategy for how you want to approach your project. You can ask yourself the following questions:
- How much time do you need to achieve your goal?
- How often do you want to work on your project?
- Does it help to divide the goal into smaller stages?
- How should you set your priorities in the future?
- Which old habits are hindering you from achieving your goals?
- What new habits can you establish step by step?
As soon as you know what your goal and the corresponding roadmap look like, you should get started. Don’t hesitate to put your plan into action: You don’t have to wait until you’ve attended another seminar, it’s Monday or someone gives you permission to finally get started.
Be proactive and allow yourself to make mistakes. They are a natural part of the process. You can also work on your fear of failure and overcome it. It will certainly also help you to connect with people who have already achieved this goal or are on their way to doing so.
Achieving goals: how to stay motivated!
Don’t let your doubts get you down. If you have a big goal, you’re bound to have doubts from time to time. Especially when we don’t make progress or an idea doesn’t work, we quickly become discouraged. Instead of suppressing your negative emotions, you should calmly acknowledge them and take them seriously. What are you afraid of right now? Are you not yet ready to leave your comfort zone? Do you have to give something up?
Take a little time out and give yourself the opportunity to recharge your batteries and realize why this goal is so important to you. If you love what you’re doing, then the process will get rolling again. For any major doubts, you also have your notes, which can give you guidance again.
If your motivation starts to wane, take a look at how far you’ve already come. Not only with your current project but also with past projects. Take time once a week to reflect on your progress and think about the next steps – and reward yourself when you have reached a milestone.
